Financial statements an agent can cite
Arche runs a Model Context Protocol server. Each tool calls the same HTTP route your code would, under your API key, so an agent gets the same figures, the same provenance and the same as-of snapshot, and can name the filing behind every number it quotes.
Why an agent needs more than a number
A language model asked what a company earned will answer, whether or not it has a source. Giving it a tool that returns a figure is half the fix; the other half is returning where the figure came from, so the answer can be checked and the agent can say which filing it read.
Every Arche value carries the accession number of the SEC filing it was read from, and figures Arche derived rather than read are marked as derived. An agent can quote the accession number alongside the figure instead of asserting it.
What the MCP server offers
- Streamable HTTP at https://api.arche.fi/mcp, authenticated with the same X-Api-Key header as the REST API.
- A keyless manifest at https://api.arche.fi/mcp/manifest listing every tool, its input schema, the plan it needs and each plan’s MCP rate limit, so an agent can read it before connecting.
- Free-plan tools include companies_resolve, filings_list, statements_normalized, provenance_as_of, financials_get_as_of_snapshot and dq_anomalies. Modeling, reconciliation and AI tools need a paid plan.
- A tool above your plan returns a structured FEATURE_NOT_AVAILABLE result naming the plan it needs, rather than failing silently.
- Point-in-time answers: provenance_as_of returns financials as they were known on a date, with provenance, down to the same snapshot hash your code would get.
Worked example: connect Claude Code and resolve a ticker
From the MCP documentation. Any client that can connect to a remote MCP server over HTTP with a custom header can use Arche; with Claude Code it is one command.
claude mcp add --transport http arche https://api.arche.fi/mcp \
--header "X-Api-Key: YOUR_API_KEY"
# Or call a tool directly over JSON-RPC:
curl -X POST "https://api.arche.fi/mcp" \
-H "X-Api-Key: $ARCHE_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": 2, "method": "tools/call", "params": {"name": "companies_resolve", "arguments": {"ticker": "AAPL"}}}'From there an agent calls provenance_as_of or financials_get_as_of_snapshot with the CIK and a date, and can quote the accession number of each figure it uses. Keep the key out of shared configuration files; most clients can read it from an environment variable.
What you need
MCP access is included on every plan, including Free. A Free key reaches the same 25 companies over MCP as over HTTP. Modeling and reconciliation tools need Growth; some AI tools need Scale. The manifest lists the plan for each tool.
Current prices and limits are on the pricing page.
Documentation
Can an AI agent use Arche on the free plan?
Yes. MCP access is included on every Arche plan, including Free, which covers any 25 companies you choose. Modeling, reconciliation and AI tools need a paid plan.
How does an agent cite an Arche figure?
Every value Arche serves carries the accession number of the SEC filing it was read from, and derived figures are marked as derived. An agent can quote the accession number with the figure so a reader can open the filing.
Which MCP clients work with Arche?
Any client that can connect to a remote MCP server over HTTP with a custom X-Api-Key header. The server speaks JSON-RPC 2.0 over Streamable HTTP and supports protocol versions 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26 and 2024-11-05.
